Invitation: the Hope of Israel — Right at the Heart of the Gospel

The early Christians believed that the Christian hope of eternal life was bound to the hope of Israel’s restoration as a Godly, peaceful nation.

Israel declared independence in 1948. The last 60 years have been anything but peaceful for Israel and its neighbours. But the Bible promises that Israel will live in peace again — and that the hope of all man kind is bound up in that peace.

Join us for an illustrated Bible talk in the Great Hall of Aston University, at 6.30pm on Sunday, May 25th — and explore these issues, finding out about God’s plan for Israel and for the world.

(If you need help with transport from Wednesbury or thereabouts, call us on 0121 530 0621 and we’ll work something out.)

Explore the relationship between the Bible and science in a special talk by Prof. Richard Palmer of Birmingham University.

An evening with an historian

We were fortunate to have a fascinating talk last Wednesday on “Is the Bible Reliable? — an historian’s perspective”.

John Botten, an experienced history teacher and lecturer, looked at:

  • How the Bible compares to other trusted reliable documents
  • The weight of evidence for believing the Bible’s record of events
  • The amount of non-Biblical evidence to support the key events in Christ’s life
  • How early the Biblical gospels were written — particularly that they were written much earlier than the ‘gnostic gospels’ prattled about in the Da Vinci code
  • Ways that we can be sure the text has barely altered since the original
  • A quick look at key Bible prophecies, predicting recent events long before they happened

The talk was interesting to anybody interested in history, whether a believer or not. If you missed this one, don’t be foolish enough to miss next month’s talk, which looks at the Bible from a scientist’s perspective.
